January 15th is celebrated as Army Day in India. It commemorates the event when Field Marshal Kodandaeera Madappa Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
Coincidentally, I was going through old photographs and found a picture of the medal my father received for his long service to the Indian Army. He was a Lance Naik with the Signals unit. Serving in the Indian Army is an honor, and being the child of an army personnel fills me with pride. The army teaches us real-life management principles, such as Henry Fayol's concept of "esprit de corps," which means group spirit. The Indian Army, despite having diversity in languages, religions, faith, beliefs, food, and regions, works towards a common goal - protecting the nation's sovereignty.
