Request to withdraw Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus

Request to reconsideration of Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus.

To: The Norwegian Nobel Committee, Henrik Ibsens gate 51, 0255 Oslo, Norway

Dear Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee,

I am writing to formally express my grave concerns regarding the recent actions and political trajectory of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

As a concerned observer of South Asian stability, I believe it is imperative to bring to your attention several developments that appear to contradict the ideals of peace and stability associated with the Nobel Prize:

  • Historical Revisionism: There are growing concerns that the current interim leadership is fostering an environment where the sacrifices of the 1971 Liberation War hero Sheikh Mujiboor Rahman are being marginalized. The movement to distance the nation from its founding history and the atrocities committed during the struggle for independence risks dishonoring the memory of those who fought for a secular and free Bangladesh.
  • Rise of Radicalization: We are observing a troubling shift where extremist elements are gaining ground within the vacuum created by recent political upheavals. The lack of clear condemnation and the apparent empowerment of these groups pose a threat to regional peace.(Deepu Das lynching case)
  • Regional Instability: There is increasing evidence of a "Balkanization" rhetoric and anti-India sentiment being encouraged, which jeopardizes the long-standing diplomatic and cultural ties between Bangladesh and India. Such movements do not foster the "fraternity between nations" that Alfred Nobel envisioned.
  • Direction of the Youth: While the July 2024 movement began with student aspirations, there is significant worry that the current path is leading the younger generation toward ideological darkness rather than democratic progress and economic stability.

I urge the Committee to take note of these developments. While I understand the historical nature of the award, the Nobel Peace Prize carries a lifelong responsibility to uphold the principles of non-violence, historical truth, and regional harmony—principles that many feel are currently under threat in Bangladesh. In direct words committee has been requested to cancel the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus with immediate effect.

Sincerely,

Amol Nakve
