The Sikkim Saga

"The Sikkim Saga" is the third book in a series to know more about Sikkim, a state where my infatuation lies in beautiful mountains and the aroma of the cool breeze. This book is written by B. S. Das, the Chief Administrator in Sikkim. He joined Sikkim in a very odd situation when the entire administration had collapsed after violent protests on the Chogyal's 50th birthday celebration. As they say, it's better to listen from the horse's mouth.

"The Sikkim Saga" was published in 1984. Largely, this book provides an insider's view on Sikkim's merger with India. Fairly written in a well-balanced narrative, it may keep you spellbound throughout the pages. He provides the "three women theory", Indira Gandhi, the Indian Prime Minister, Hope Cooke, the American wife of the Chogyal, and Kazini, the Belgium wife of Kazi.

These three women were responsible for the death of the monarchy in Sikkim. Nicely written with no complications of historical background, this book makes for interesting reading. Highly recommended.

Keep reading, keep rediscovering.
