Parity Issue

One Rank One Pension - Parity Issue

My father has served Indian Army for 18 years. Throughout his tenure with army he has dedicated each and every moment of life to serve the nation. He was not there when my grandfather passed away; he was not there when his son was suffering from disease. Serving nation was his passion. I proudly say to that I have inherited this quality.

He got retired from army services in 1991 at the age of 35 with nominal pension, with family to take care. After retirement future were completely in dark. Though the DGR (Director General of Resettlement) is the welfare organization trying their best to place army veterans to place in private sectors.  My father was lucky to be place in department of police through lot of struggle. He was one of those who got opportunity after retirement from army.

On 17th February 2014, P. Chidambaram has hoisted the green flag to long demanded, much promised never implemented one rank one pension. This move is likely to benefit 25 lakh army veterans who have been fighting for their rights of getting equal remuneration of pensions.
What is this One Rank one pension? One rank one pension was basically a long standing demand by army veterans for equal pension. There is difference between amount of pension paid to retired army personnel who retiree pre 2006 retired and post 2006 retiree.

Every pay commission bumps the salary of government employees and pension of retired personnel remains unchanged. This has widened the gap of those who retire earlier with same length of service and with same rank. This disparity spark after sixth pay commission, those veterans who retired before 1995 were getting 82% less amount of salary those who retired after 2006. And this disparity loaded a discontent among the ex-army personnel.

The veterans began their agitation and surrender 22,000 gallantry awards to the president in protest and in hope to get justice on their disparity issue of pensions.
P. Chidambaram has allocated Rs. 500 crors to bridge the gap of parity. However Rs. 1700-1800 crores required to bridge the gap completely.

UPA - 1 and UPA – 2 had denied the demand of the veterans, the sudden move of the government is to woo the ex-army men for upcoming general election though politically motivated is welcomed by veterans. And it is expected to attract vote bank of 25 lakh veterans and if their family taken into account 2 crores.
There will be republications awaited for next government from retired civil servant as they may demand t to resolve the disparity issues of their pension. This will have heavy financial implications of additional Rs.8000 to 9000 on government treasury.

Altogether, the move of the government on one rank one pension is must welcome as it gives justice to those who dedicate their lives restlessly for serving the nation.

Heartily Congratulation to Army Veterans!

You won the another battle!

International Women's Day

To,

Honorable Supreme Court of India,

On eve of International Women’s Day, my best wishes and sincere thanks for executing women constitutional fundamental rights with utmost interest by the judiciary system and Government.

In Indian society we always worship women in form of goddesses. We always believe in equal opportunities for all. In our constitution under fundamental rights, right to equality has been granted to each and every citizen of the country.  But there were some un-constitutional element of society which has been regularly violated the women’s fundamental rights. And these were the causes of failure in execution of fundamental rights.
But over a period of time Indian democracy has come over the remedial to preserve the fundamental rights of women. And soon we shall be the greatest democracy in world having strong executed fundamental rights to women.

After Nirbhaya’s case there is drastic change in Indian society to look at women’s issues. I would say there is paradigm shift to look at women issues in society.
I am optimistic about Women’s Reservation Bill which shall allow 33% quota to women in lower house of parliament. Soon we will have women’s representation from all across the nation in parliament. This representation will, in other form will represent at least 40% of population. Women representation will also help us to ensure execution women’s fundamental rights.

Last year Government has amended Companies Act, 1956, to have participation of women in company’s boards. Now companies need to Women Board director. Execution at representative position will also result into execution at other levels.

Recently Government, under the guidelines  Vishakha judgement of Honorable Supreme Court of India has pass the bill on Women’s Sexual Harassment at workplace(Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal ) Act, 2013, which is landmark in Indian legislative history. According to this legislation each and every employer in private has to mandatorily formulate redressal mechanism by constituting Internal Complain Committee.  This will surely secure the execution of women’s Fundamental rights. These were the few of the important landmarks which will help us to secure execution of fundamental rights to women.

The objective of this letter is to highlight one of the critical issues face by the women with disability.  As per the census data 2011, India’s around 2 % population is with some or other form of disability. Out of which 46% are females. This class is subject greater range of social exclusion and far far away from mainstream.

After Nirbhaya’s case, there has been lot of changes have taken place in judiciary system.  Women with
disability are highly vulnerable to rape case and there is high probability that due to extreme social exclusion number of such cases may not reach to judiciary system.  Our more than 1 crore population is vulnerable to this brutal, criminal act of exploitation.

Post Nirbhaya case, to make lows as strong as possible government has formulated committee under chairmanship of justice Verma to prevent and delt with rape cases and suggestions were asked from all segment of society. I am hopeful that justice Verma has received the few suggestions to protect the rights of women with disability.

By this letter I am requesting Honorable Supreme Court of India to consider all rape cases of women with disability as rarest of rare and grant a maximum punishment and also such cases proceeding to be conducted in fast track cases.  This will be inclusive practice and help us in rehabilitation aggrieved women with disability.
With hope that Honorable Supreme Court of India, will treat this request priority and will help in

Once again, best wishes for International Women day.

Baran - The Rain

Baran

It’s all about how do you feel it, not about how you understand it. Baran is Iranian movie directed by Majid Majidi. It was filmed in year 2001. This is the inexplicable love saga of Lateef and Baran.

Engaging illegal migrants from Afghanistan was not allowed to work in Iran without work permits. Afghan migrants suffered a lot from civil war and continuous drought and this forced them to migrate to other nations for survival. These migrants were the cheap source of labour at construction sites but not allowed to work legally. Afghan migrants were hidden form in labour economy.

Rehmat is refugee Afghan girl who surreptitiously worked as male construction worker.  Her father met with an accident with sustainable injuries and unable to earn for his family with three kids without mother.

Rehamat was found not fit to do laborious construction work and replaced by work of Lateef. Lateef, the Iranian boy who is doing a work of serving tea to workers. Initially Lateef was uncomfortable with Rehmat as he got replaced his comfortable job with him. One fine day Lateef found Rehmat to comb her hairs and discovered that Rehamat is not boy, a girl who is working to support her family. From this moment onwards he has change his attitude towards her, He is now became protective, careful and desperately in love with her.  Rehmat real name is Baran.

One fine day Inspector raided the construction site and found Afghan workers and barred all of them from work. This leads to the separation of both Lateef and Baran.  Lateef has started his search to find the most beautiful thing which never, ever happened to him. He has become restless, speechless.
Most importantly I have found that one need not to express love in terms of materialistic things. Love can found in care, passion, and help. The way in which life is leading is love. The moment you realize the precious value of life is love. Expressing gratitude is love.

Lateef crosses miles and inches of Tehran city to find her and successfully located her at refugee camp on river side. He gave his all saving to support her through her known person, who in turn deceived him and creep away. He helped her family in all possible way. One day he sold his work permit to get good amount and on other evening gave that money to Baran’s father stating that this money has been given by his labor contractor as part of his due. Upon receipt of help her father told him that this money will help him to return to Afghan with his family.
This was the moment to feel world over clouded. The moment which freezes the breath.
On next morning, in a cloudy atmosphere, Lateef helped Najaf to load truck. Baran was carrying a fruit basket, apparently the basket fall from her hand and fruits fall on floor like pearls fall from garland. Lateef has come to help her to gather the fallen fruits.

While helping her, first time, with close proximity, face to face, with heavy heart and choked voice through misty eyes both exchanged their love. The pure, transparent, passionate…love.
The moment….glorious moment.

Ignited vehicles engine started pulling the vehicle towards the close end, to vanish the deep proximity. In the last, Lateef was watching the footsteps of Baran in mud and it started raining. He was witnessing the disappearing vehicle and the footsteps getting covered with rain water to get it disappeared forever. Disappeared forever……..

Inextricable love is parting away in inexplicable ways.

Baran means ‘rain’

One of the fantastic movies I even seen.

Must watch.

Memoir

Memoir

It was a very cold evening in the month of December. Dehradoon is the perfect destination for settling the turbulence of mind. Of course the Doon valley is the spectacular place in the world. Temperature was shivering cold and fair enough to put liveliness into your cold body. Some people describe it as natural calamity and others describes it as wonders of nature.

I am one of those who believes that this phenomenon as wonders of nature. It was our inner strength which keeps us alive. Calamities are meant to test our strengths.

Twinkling light of Mussoorie adding more charms to Dehradoon. These lights always invites me to enjoy the extravagant peace of mountain.

Massiveness of massive mountains and profundity of deep valleys always accommodate you with love and care. As sun sets, these lights rise, like sun rises in morning triumph over darkness. If you were pragmatic you would have felt that there were no nights.

I was quite fortunate because my house was juxtaposed to witness this phenomenon. I felt that winter is specking to me in silence. The memories of coldness will always keep me warm. I live in that moment. May be larger than life.

It was beginning of virtuous cycle and it is!

Retention

Retention

I am delighted to share views on retention tools. I have been discussing this topic among HR fraternity from last five years and found following ways of retaining people in the organization. Nonetheless retention is long term process which has to be completed in phased manner to consolidate attrition in your organisation.

1) Recruitment :-
Retention always starts with recruiting right people who will keep their journey along with organisational journey with intact alignments. And for recruiting right people we must have precise recruitment process with defined position and organisation specific competencies. This is the only point where we can curb the attrition. Some anonymous rightly said ‘ retention tools are antidote for attrition and well defined and executed recruitment practices would act as vaccines.
2) Induction :-
Induction activity will help to acclimatized new incumbent with organisation. This is one of the activity which make people aware about organisation and its purpose of existence. This is where employee engagement starts. This is where path meets. Similarly people want to learn and grow. This will help them to meet their personal and professional objective. T and D is playing pivotal role in retention.
3) HR Policies :-
Good HR Practices- Transparent well defined practices motivates employees and differentiate one organisation from another. People practices are key factor for health of organisation. Unique and awesome HR practices should became talk of the town. GHRP must also helps in attracting talent.
4) R and R :-
Why do people want to work for organisation? Money? Not exactly. People want to contribute. Contribute towards organisations mission and vision. In return they expect recognition for their contribution. Effective rewards and recognition programs are giving the competitive advantage. Rewarded, recognized  and happy employee will not think about leaving the organisation.
5) Career Path :-
What next? What would be the next orbital for growth? Can I see the dreams with the organisation? Where I will reach after excellence?
Career succession plan is giving direction to careers of people. Well defined, structured and transparent CSP is one of the retention tool.
6) Culture :-
People want to survive in virtuous environment where progressive and future things are discussed. Culture enables people to perform. It establishes linkage between job and its impact on surrounding and society. The impact... impact on society.
